About letters to my dog

We’re sharing the extraordinary and often unexpected ways that dogs can help to change lives – and we’d love for you to get involved by writing your own letter. Perhaps there’s a dog you’d like to thank, remember, or simply tell how much they mean to you? Whatever you’d like to say, we’d love you to write it. You can also read the incredible letters others have written to their dog.

A letter to Twiggy

To my beautiful golden Labrador and helper, Twiggy,

I am writing this to you, even though you cannot read the words, because I wanted to let you know how much you’re loved and also how much you have improved my quality of life.

Before you came into my life, the world felt much bigger, louder, and harder to navigate. There were days when simple tasks felt like mountains. But from the moment we teamed up, everything changed. You became my independence and part of my life.

Watching my back when we are out in public. Whenever I drop something, you are instantly right there to pick it up and place it safely back into my hands. Because of your training and dedication, I can move through the world with a sense of safety and confidence I thought I had lost.

But what amazes me most is the bridge you build between work and play, you transform from work right back into my silly, joyful, wagging tail against the floor, chasing tennis balls, and making me laugh until my chest hurts. You carry the weight of my challenges during the day, and then you bring pure light into my evenings.

Thank you for your patience on the hard days, Twiggy. Thank you for your fierce loyalty, your unwavering focus, and the unconditional love you give me every single second. You are so much more than a dog; you are my best friend, my protector, and the biggest piece of my heart.

Good girl, Twiggy. You are doing an amazing job.

With all my love,

Richard
